The Town I Grew Up In

Vallejo, this was the neighborhood I was raised in since I was 5 years old. Vallejo is a really great place that has a lot of good communities but it also has its bad points. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is the theme park that is located in Vallejo which helps bring in tourist and helps keep Vallejo alive. Vallejo was even named the second worst place to live in a magazine next to New Orleans. There have been cases of violence all over Vallejo recently ranging from shootings to robberies and even more. My neighborhood in the past 2 years has been targeted by house robberies having multiple houses on my block being robbed. Thankfully my house was not one of them but I do fear I might be next. Vallejo wasn’t always like this but I may have been too young to think of these views.

I lived in the middle class area of Vallejo called the Cimarron Hills. This area is located right next to one of the worst areas of Vallejo, The Crest. Vallejo influenced a lot of my friends when I was younger to become "Ghetto" but this didn't get to me. I will admit that I became who I am today because of where I lived and that it influenced me to not want to follow the trends. I have to thank my friends I have made over the years for who I have become today. I have made some bad choices because they seemed to be right at the time but my friends were still there and guided me back to the right path. Vallejo wasn't the happiest or the greatest place to live in, some people may say it's the worst but I am glad I lived here because the place I lived in and the people I've known have all made me who I am.

  1. I would have to agree with your post Andrew. Growing up in Richmond, and I'm sure you know the reputation that the city carries, but I was never one to play up to those stereotypes. I have also lived in Vallejo, on Redwood Pkwy, right near Marine World - I loved it!
